The session started off with an explanation of MUN terms and processes such as personal privilege, information, point of order and the right to reply. This session acts as an icebreaker between the Executive Board and the Delegates to ensure a smooth and productive committee session.

After this session, the committee focused on establishing a moderated caucus. Multiple countries proposed motions for this, a vote was taken to come to a conclusion. The motion for the first moderated caucus was, “achieving gender equality by empowering girls and women.”
This discussion brought up areas where women and girls do not have the same opportunities as men and how countries could set up policies to support women and girls in these ventures.

Then they moved on to the General Speakers List (GSL) where each delegate spoke about their countries actions towards the issue and their possible solutions. The GSL is a great way for the delegates to understand their fellow delegates’ stance on the topic. This gives them an idea of what will be discussed in the debate and who they could form resolution blocs with.

After the GSL, another moderated caucus was established with the motion, “Impact of climate change on resources”. During this session, countries talked about the specifics of the situation of climate change and the impact this has on their resources.
